Phase II: Recovery Group Workbook Series - For Partners
The Recovery Group Workbook Series consists of Workbooks 5 - 8. Please Note: Phase I (Workbooks 1 - 4) is a prerequisite before starting Phase II, as the workbooks in Phase II build upon the principles introduced in Phase I.
Workbook Five—Breaking Through Denial
Although it's generally easy to see that many addicts are in denial about their addiction, partners of addicts have a much harder time realizing that they may be using denial to manage some of the pain and shame associated with their partner's addiction. Workbook Five will help you determine if you are using denial to avoid looking at your own issues. This workbook is the first book of Phase II, where you can expect a more hands-on approach than the workbooks in Phase I, which were basically educational in scope.
Workbook Six—More About Boundaries
In Workbook Four of Phase I, you learned about how boundaries are developed in the formative years. Workbook Six builds on this foundation, giving you a much more thorough understanding of why learning to establish healthy boundaries-and then setting consequences and enforcing them-is critical for partners of addicts. This book will also give you more detail on codependency and surrender which were both briefly discussed in Workbook Five
Workbook Seven—Expressing Anger and Other Emotions
Through a series of introspective exercises, Workbook Seven brings you face-to-face with reality and helps you identify your feelings and emotions. By identifying and confronting your faulty core beliefs and learning to reverse your negative thought patterns, you'll be able to take a realistic look at how you may have used anger as a coping method in the past-and what you can do now to move forward. After completing Workbook Seven you'll be well on your way to learning how to create a healthy lifestyle for yourself by replacing your negative behaviors with healthier, more fulfilling ones.
Workbook Eight—Self-Care and Healthy Living
In Workbook Eight we introduce you to two powerful self-monitoring tools that will help you analyze your behavior and keep yourself in check. The first is the Trigger Processing Sheet, an assessment tool that allows you to reflect back on past faulty thinking episodes so that you can learn from past mistakes and recognize how to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The second tool is the STAR Gauge, an innovative method of monitoring your behaviors that will help you to remain focused on the behaviors and activities that keep you healthy, happy, and on top of your game.
